What is ARCHLAB?

ARCHLAB offers transnational access to organized scientific information in largely unpublished datasets from archives of prestigious European museums, galleries and research institutions. ARCHLAB enables access to the combined knowledge in 14 repositories in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the UK. For more information, please check this video.

ARCHLAB is supported by IPERION HS (Integrating Platforms for the European Research Infrastructure ON Heritage Science), a consortium of 24 partners from 23 countries that contributes to establishing a pan-European research infrastructure on heritage science. It offers training and transnational access to a wide range of high-level scientific instruments, methodologies, data and tools for advancing knowledge and innovation in heritage science.

Researchers in the academy, public institutions and industry can submit proposals : IPERION HS selects the best proposals and covers the transportation, accommodation and subsistence costs of this activity. Proposals must be submitted online through the application form, at any time, with two evaluation cut-off deadlines a year. 

What does the C2RMF offer you?

The Center for research and restoration of the museums of France (C2RMF) is an ARCHLAB provider since 2009 (with the CHARISMA project). It offers you an exceptional documentation on the works of the museums of France.

• Scope: more than 1.200 museums of France spread throughout the territory
• Archival dates: from 1931
• Subjects: paintings, archaeology (ceramic, glass, stone, metal, textiles), sculpture, graphic arts, modern and contemporary materials, decorative arts (enamel, goldsmithery, earthenware), bio-materials ; from Prehistory to 21st Century

What could you find? All the records from the studies carried out at the laboratory since its creation in 1931 and all the documentation related to the works restored at the C2RMF:
 

• Nearly 35.000 scientific reports and analytical data;
• More than 20.000 restoration reports, nearly 8.000 condition reports;
• More than 420.000 scientific images such as X-rays, infrared and fluorescence images, infrared reflectography, multispectral images, 3D-scanning;
• Historical records of the laboratory.

The entry key to our collections is a multilingual local database, EROS, that records all the works and objects that have been studied or restored at the C2RMF (more than 77.000).
The C2RMF also keeps a sample collection.
We welcome researchers in our documentation center at the Palais du Louvre and we offer them privileged access to archives, documentation and the library (that counts 13.000 monographs, 2.000 dissertations and theses and 53 periodical titles).
